Blog makeover

If you normally read my blog in a reader, click through and come on over.

Organising Queen has had a makeover.

As with any makeover, there’s a story…

I got another blog redesigned on blogger and wanted the same designer to do this one but she doesn’t do WordPress so I said, “no problem, do the designing of the little bits and pieces and I’ll get someone to add it on later”

Not such a little problem.

My usual person has been moving and whatnot so has been unavailable and eventually I begged and begged some more and the lovely Jayme (who is a rockstar mom also with twins) agreed to do it for me.

(thank you to all the others who also offered to do the work)

What do you think?

What should I move around? How can I make things easier for you to find?

BTW, what is the difference between tags and categories, and when do you use one vs the other? (in blogger, it’s so easy – there’s one thing, and it’s called labels)

  1. Hi Marcia LOVE the new look, and its easy to navigate around. Well done 🙂

  2. LOVE the blog. Looks pretty and things are very easy to find.
I would suggest adding a “share on FB or on Twitter” button in case I want to do this.

  3. ps..I haven’t really made an effort on my blog with categories and tags so I am quite a bad example. Must spend time actually fixing this kind of stuff on my blog and tidying it up some more.

The simplest way to understand it is to look at categories as a physical file of sorts and tags as the contents of the file. Kind of like your tax file where the file (category) would be called something like SARS 2010/2011 and the contents (tags) of that file would be things like your IRP5 and your medical aid tax certificate.

For example if I were writing this post I would maybe categorise it as “General” or even under the category of “Makeover” or maybe “Blog Admin” and then I would use keywords or tags (I think that this is what blogger refers to as labels) within the category such as blog, redesign, makeover etc. Tags, as I understand them, are keywords that you would use in order for people to stumble onto your site when they do a google search or, if you want to sound posh, tags are used for SEO purposes.

Go to http://www.wordpress.com. They have really good tutorials and if I could actually open it from work then I would actually add a direct link into this comment.
    Hope you come right.

  4. Oy. Sorry about that esssay. I should have emailed you.

  5. Love the new look, clean and fresh. I second Julia’s suggestion of FB share button, makes it much easier to share all the goodness! 😉

  6. Hi Marcia,
I love the new look! My one suggestion would be to add a link to your Home page of your website. “services” takes you directly to “coaching” and I assume that is intentional. But perhaps somewhere on there, you can link directly to your home page so people can quickly see your public face.
But the look of the blog and website, very clean and current!

  7. love the new look!!

  8. The new look is very clean. I like it! As for categories and tags, I like Julie’s explanation. She made that easy to understand, because I sure couldn’t have explained it!

      Thank you everybody!

But am afraid the tags and categories are still not clear 🙂 I’m too used to Blogger I think
