Tonight I did a talk at the church on balance.
To start off I had everyone write down their definition of balance.
That’s one of my tips – I let them write it down because I don’t want people changing their answers due to peer pressure 🙂
This is my definition:
Balance is about spending a sufficient amount of time in the areas of your life that you’ve prioritised as important.
What do you think?
Agree? Disagree? Why?
Other than that, what are your goals for the week?
Mine?
1. get up to date on emails – I have 34 in my inbox
2. decide on and send through my guest blog posts
3. newsletter
4. blog every week day
5. do webpage for Spring into Organising workshop
I agree, there’s no right or wrong definition of balance that would fit everybody, it’s personal! And my goal for this week is to do my evening routine everyday.
I think some people think balance is about equal time for tasks or roles, like a set of scales in perfect alignment. For me balance is about doing what needs to be done when needed, being able to shift our priorities according to need. Eg sometimes my family have to come first, other times I need to be able to say to my family ‘work is going through a busy time & I need to give it my attention full-time for a few days.’ I do however let my family know I will be back & I still wish to know what is happening. Easier now thanks to modern technology such as Skype 🙂 We need to give our scales (life) permission to be a little it unbalanced at times & be flexible enough to shift as needed & not feel guilty.
Not always easy & I also know I am blessed with a wonderful job that allows me to flex as needed.
I think the most important thing here is that everyone’s priorities will be different, and also different at various times in our life, so it’s a good idea to regularly review your priorities together with your direction in life.
fantastic definitions, everyone
I like your definition. And all the others in the comments. I guess there is no right or wrong answer because it does mean different things to everyone.
