Some bloggy spring cleaning

Hello all

I’m doing some spring cleaning on the blog. Yes, we are already knee-deep into spring but better late than never, right?

1. Please let me know if your usual feed/ links aren’t working properly because I removed the redirect so all the posts should now say organisingqueen.com/blahblahblah
2. I’ve made only half a feed publish through to the readers so that hopefully you will decide to click through and engage with me more. I know it’s easier to read from email/ reader but it’s very lonely if I hear only from one or two people.
3. Speaking of comments, to those of you who do comment, a big, big THANK YOU! When I reply (I reply to 95% of comments within the comments), do you get it coming through to your email?
I had a plug-in installed so that I could answer in the comments and it would email those people directly but Julia, you said you didn’t the ones from the system. Is that still the case? Do I need to pay someone to fix it again?

4. Do you all know how to comment? I had some feedback that the comment form was hard to find. At the bottom of every post you’ll see something like this:

Posted in intentional living | 3 comments

If you click on the link “3 comments” it will bring up an empty box to write your lovely words.

5. Do you ever click around the blog to look for things or do you just read the current post?

6. Then last but not least, and I’m almost scared to ask this question (a blogger I read asked a similar question a few months ago and people were mostly positive and constructive but boy oh boy, there were lots of very blunt comments – I told her I’d have had a nice cry 🙂) but I’ll use my word of the year and exercise some COURAGE…

What kind of changes would you like to see on the blog that will enable you to find things better?

If you’re a techno-wizard and you have ideas in mind or links to blogs that show what you mean (because really, all I do is know how to write a bit – everything else about blogging is a big mystery to me), leave me a note in the comments.

  1. I know that putting just a snippet in a google reader makes people come through and your chance of comments is greater, but sometimes people just don’t bother and skip it altogether. Good luck with all your changes .

      Stefanie, thanks for your comment!

I’m just trying some things. I’ve got to work out a balance for me and for the readers 🙂

Agreed. Im more likely to just skip a post if I have to click though to read it. What keeps me from commenting more is the incredibly short window to add comments to posts before it thinks I must be a spambot. I never know whether comments will even still be open, so often I won’t bother to check because its discouraging every time I can’t comment quickly enough.

  2. I’m partial about half posts through the feeds: I hate those. And I comment on 99% of your posts anyway! LOL But just because it’s you and I love reading your posts, I won’t unsubscribe. Not many blogs keep me as a reader with half posts, you can be proud, you talented girl! 😉 On the replies, I never realized that your e-mails were actually replies in the comment, so please reply to this one and I’ll pay more attention. <3

  3. Not a fan of partial feeds but I do understand why you are doing it. I will continue to click through to the blog – only because I love you and because you post AWESOME content.
I LOVED the series of questions that you had with your October blogging. Maybe you could do more of that type of thing.

Oh, and do link to guest articles that you write. I clicked on CHWAHM the other day in your sidebar – quite by chance, and I read a FANTATIC article that you wrote – am even subscribed to them now.
I don’t get the comments in my email – they seldom come through. But, I wouldn’t pay someone to fix it. Just hit reply AND include the email address of the commenter so that it definitely goes to them too and your problem is solved.

  4. Ok, so you can ignore my question a few blogs more current than this about reader! I can see why you would do that. I find it amazing that Reader does not have the technology to allow people to comment from it. I know I would comment more if I could do it from there, as you can see from tonight, I’ve commented three times already!

  5. One more thing – I think I got your reply as an email – experiment with this one and I will let you know for sure. Half posts in Reader is one thing, pretty please don’t do that on your actual blog! (Of course, you can do whatever you need to! I will keep coming and reading!!)
