{31 days of easy organising solutions} – use a timer

Timers are one of my most favourite organising tools ever.

Did you see the latest way I’m using timers on yesterday’s post?

I even use the timer for my kids’ time-outs šŸ™‚

Nevertheless, timers work really well with time management especially if you’re a naturally competitive person like I am.

If I have to organise a number of areas, I’ll make my list and then set out to complete them in 15-minute intervals.

You can knock out much more in an hour of 15-minute sessions if you set the timer every time you finish an interval than if you gave yourself an hour and then started working.

Just a caution – I don’t think this method is good all the time but when you’re procrastinating about doing something, set your timer and challenge yourself.

No need to go fancy – I bought this timer for about R15 at a large retailer a couple of years ago – otherwise use your phone. I try to leave my phone in my bedroom if I’m working in another area of the house so that I’m not distracted by messages, etc. so I like the old-fashioned kitchen timer (see my yellow egg one in the pic above)

Do you have a timer? Do you use it?

Have you checked out my book, Live Organised, yet?

  1. I too use timers all the time. As I said in my comment the other day, I sometimes use smaller intervals (5 or 10 minutes) and even keep going when the timer beeps because I’ve gained momento.

  2. great series!!!
