19 random acts of kindness – parts 1 – 6

Remember this post about the 19 random acts of kindness for John?

Well, I’ve done 5 so far.

1. a farewell gift for someone who worked at the same company I work at. We are not close and I just wanted to do something nice for her.

I bought these little pads in Malaysia in 2006 and I ration myself because I want them to last as long as possible. Why didn’t I buy more?!

Can you see? Around the edge it says “work, play, dream, may your dreams come true”. It seemed very “me” at the time.

2. a birthday gift for another work person – I know she loves travel like I do so I got her a photo album and frame for her desk

3. a lovely note and notebook for a friend, sent through the normal mail to brighten their day

4. a care package for another friend, also sent through the mail (don’t you love nice things in the mail instead of bills???)

5. my copy of the Reluctant Entertainer is going to Laura (it’s ready to be posted but we’re actually going to try and meet up when I go on holiday later this month

6. it was my boss’s birthday this week and we pass around a card and write messages. I usually write the first thing that comes to mind. This time I really thought about it and finally I wrote something that I thought he would like, but that also is typical me. And… he LOVED my message (a Dr Seuss quote).

That’s it for now.

I’m asking God daily to show me opportunities to do my random acts of kindness and He’s coming through.

So look out, you could be next!

Even if you don’t want to do 19, I would love it if you’d join me in doing just one random act over the next few days.

Will you do that?

To inspire me and the other readers, please share some random acts of kindness done by you or someone else.

PS I’m so proud of my little button. I’m no designer but look, I made my own little doodad  😉

PPS Does anyone know how to upload more than 1 photo at a time in WordPress? It’s taking me sweet forever to blog!

19 random acts of kindness

If you’re a regular reader of my newsletter, about a month ago I mentioned that my friend, Beth‘s son, Jon, had died very tragically.

In these kinds of situations, I always feel very helpless unless I’m doing something. So I pray and send emails and it all doesn’t feel quite enough.

Apparently I’m not the only one to feel helpless.

Beth recently posted that people were doing 19 random acts of kindness in Jon’s honour, 1 for each year of his life. He was 18 so was in his 19th year.

Jon was the type of person to always go out of his way to help people (I’m sure one of his love languages was acts of service) and so this is exactly the type of thing he’d do.

I love, love, LOVE this idea and told Beth that I’m definitely playing along.

On day 1, I already did 3 – 4 random acts of kindness which I will post about early next week.

But for now, who of you will do this with me?

Even if you didn’t know Jon or Beth, you can do it just because you want to spread a little kindness.

Have a look at Beth’s post for some AWESOME resources. Beth has always been the Queen of Finding Good Things on the Internet 🙂
