Making matchbook notebooks

I saw these cute notebooks somewhere on the internet.

Most people make them with paint sample cards.

We have a bookshop in South Africa, Exclusive Books, that always has lovely bookmarks at the cash desk.

The bookmarks usually promote something or other and are made of nice, thick card and so I decided to use these to make a couple of matchbook notebooks to keep in my car.

As you can see, these ones promoted Corinne Bailey Rae.

Get some paper ready for the inside. Scrap paper works perfectly.

Two folds of the card, a staple and you’re done.

It really is as easy as that.

I’m a bit of a fanatic about re-using both sides of paper til completely used up. I also use the 2 – 3 cm bits of scrapbook paper for fancy notepads 🙂

I also make bigger notebooks, all with scrap paper, for the babies to scribble on.

Do you use up all your scrap paper?

What kind of grocery bags do you use?

A few years ago they introduced a fee for plastic shopping bags in South Africa.

They also started selling reusable shopping bags at all the major retailers.

I must add that the quality of those shopping bags at Pick and Pay has deteriorated as we still use the two we originally bought but the newer ones always have to be replaced after a couple of months.

When you have to suddenly pay for plastic (and you’re a wannabe greenie like I am), you become a lot more diligent about remembering the bags.

We’re in a routine now and store the main stash on a hook at the side of the pantry cupboard.

Dion and I both keep about two bags in the boot (trunk) of our car for those impulsive, non-scheduled shopping trips.

But over to you – do you use plastic? (no judgement here) If you use reusable shopping bags, what are your tricks for remembering to take them with you?
